Step 1: Get Tested.
Are you CardioSound?
Begin with this question: How much risk do I carry?
Being CardioSound means your risk for an event is low (an "event" is a heart attack, stroke or sudden cardiac death). How do most people find out they have high risk? When they have an event. Not everyone survives it.
How do you know if you have artery disease?
test your arteries.
We determine what level of risk you carry by testing your arteries and your genes. If testing determines that your risk is low, then nothing more needs to be done.
But if your risk is high, the next step is to ask this question: “Why is my risk high?”
Have you survived a heart attack or a stroke?
Then by definition your risk is high for having another event. You need to be asking the questions “Why did I have an event?” and “What can I do to ensure I don’t have another one?” Check out our page for heart attack survivors and stroke survivors.
what we test
To determine your risk for having an event in the next 10 years, we look at three things: calcification in your heart arteries, plaque in your peripheral arteries, and your genetics, Using these three technologies allows us to triangulate your risk. What is your 10-year event risk? The only way to find out is to get tested.
CAlcium in the heart arteries
Calcium is a marker for inflammation in the arteries of the heart. In the heart scan above, white spots are the calcium deposits in the arteries. Normally, arteries are clean with no calcium.
plaque in peripheral arteries
Ultrasound measures how thick the artery disease is.
Genetic testing gives us information about how rapidly your artery disease may progress.
